Overview

Data collection is key to the success of any computerized patient record system. The GraviPAD application for Apple's Newton is a convenient tool for collecting obstetrical healthcare information 'at the bedside' or 'in the field'. It is a member of ReQuest's POCitWare (Point Of Care information technology) family of tools; each POCit tool will collect information specific to a specialized healthcare field. Unlike many systems capturing high-level, general-purpose client information, POCit tools will cover each clinical area in depth.

GraviPAD is intended for use in conjunction with a comprehensive clinical information system operating on personal computers. Typically, providers will load their daily caseloads from a personal computer (or network) into the Newton, collect patient information, and update the computer at the end of the workday. GraviPAD has been designed with the flexibility to support a variety of database systems, including CoLab, a multimedia electronic patient record for Macs and PC's under development by ReQuest Technologies. When released as a product, GraviPAD will include files supporting popular database formats, including FileMaker, FoxPro/dBase, and SQL systems.

CoLab and GraviPAD are patient-centered systems. The central menu is a circle of iconic pushbuttons representing a continuum of care, including the following major categories:

		Well-Woman (Gynecology)
		Antepartum
		Intrapartum
		Postpartum
		Newborn
		Transfers
		Problems/Care Plans
		Risk Assessment
		Referrals and Consultations
		Labs and Scans
		Maternal Education

About The GraviPAD Demonstration

The GraviPAD demonstration program provides the look and feel of the final system but does not fully support data beaming, printing, or transfer functions.

The demonstration contains only a subset of the information to be gathered in the first product release slated for the last quarter of 1994; that release will represent a comprehensive set of Outcome elements. Future releases will incorporate elements for an ongoing patient chart.

The POCit tool design allows ReQuest to produce new specialty tools rapidly. Custom tools can be developed to meet site-specific requirements. For more information on GraviPAD, other POCit tools, the CoLab system, custom tools, and other ReQuest products, please contact:
